I have never been one for those "as seen on t.v." type products. However, last time we were at the vet we saw a video for the furminator. It looked like something our house needed (2 dogs, 3 cats). Before you think we are crazy for having so many pets (and I do agree with you) we only intended on having two cats and then I decided I wanted a dog. Two more pet rescues later we have a whole petting zoo. It's really hard for me sometimes b/c I like things VERY clean and neat. With 5 pets it can be impossible. So I decided to try to keep the fur in the house down to a minimum and used the furminator today. It really worked like the video showed. The picture is fur from all 5 pets, of course I had to have the cat beside it so you can see how big the hunk of fur really is. Unfortunately, the wind was blowing like crazy so what you see is only a small amount of fur that wasn't carried away somewhere. On to the important news- we are officially Gladney approved! Our homestudy (hopefully) has been sent to CIS by Gladney and we are praying for our fingerprint date to be issued to us ASAP! Then we are hoping and praying for fast processing on those! It is our last step to getting our referral.
The school that I work at was on our local christian radio station Friday (KSBJ). Youth For Christ hosted what I would call a youth ralley for our school. It was pretty sweet. A local band came and talked to the kids during lunch. Then the event was that evening. It was pretty cool to see God back in school! All throughout the week we had verses posted throughout our school and they raised money and purchased t-shirts so that all of the kids could have one.
I recently received a Kids of Courage, The Voice of the Martyrs magazine. I went to lunch and when I came back there it was on my desk. I was pretty excited because it was specifically on Ethiopia! It had a LOT of great information in it: a recipe for Dabo Kolo, an Ethiopian snack, how to tell time in Ethiopia, some Amharic words, some information about Ethiopia, and of course stories about kids and families who have stood up for their faith. I had to hunt for a bit but found the person who gave it to me. She figured that I probably knew all of the information in it (which I definitely did not) but thought that I might like it. I was thrilled to say the least and have added it to our little library. It made my day that she thought of me and gave it to me. I don't think she knew what a gift she was giving!
I have really enjoyed cooking lately and have found quite a few good recipes. I am getting ready to make some injera and other Ethiopian food but have been focused on some other things for right now. Today I decided to make eggplant sandwiches.I was a bit skeptical but they turned out pretty good considering I had NO clue what I was doing. Also I had no clue what to look for when I was buying the eggplant. I added a bit of my own ideas to the recipe and put some ham and some other spices in the mix. Not too shabby but also not something I would have very often! ;)

Dear sparkz,
I'm so glad a friend thought of you and gave you the Ethiopia issue of Kids of Courage. I'm the Kids of Courage director; a friend forwarded your blog to me. Thanks for your kind words. I'll share them with our staff. Feedback is always welcome.
Drop me a note some time.
Sincerely,
Brad

The FURminator! is awesome. I really did not believe it when I saw the video. We have a yellow lab that sheds like crazy year round. Every day we sweep up a about a 12 inch ball of fur from our house. I am not sure whether or not she sheds more or less than your typical lab but it seems like a lot. Like I said I was very skeptical but desperate so we tried one. It was really amazing the amount of hair removed. It was very comparable to the video if not more. I had a white garbage bag full of hair. Our Daisy looked five pounds lighter. This is one of the few products that is more substance than hype.
Congrats on Gladney approval! And we may have to invest in a FURminator too...pretty crazy!
OK, wondering if our budget can handle this furminator thing. We are trying to be very careful with our money as we are (hopefully) in the end stages of the adoption process and have some hefty bills to pay, but this thing looks amazing.
No doubt the Furminator is kind of expensive. But I wish I had the money I spent on solutions that did not work. It is cheap in comparison.
