Diapers

So I think I have blogger envy. Is that wrong? I see how many hits other blogs get and the number comments, amazing! But, they have such great writers behind them I am not necessarily surprised. I have really enjoyed reading other blogs lately. I have had a LITTLE more free time and scoped out several blogs that I have never been able to look at. I had a lot of fun reading them and was actually having withdrawals this weekend as I was away from the computer.

Recently I ran across something that really changed my mind. I always thought I would never use "cloth type" diapers but I am thinking that they might be a great investment. Check out Tara’s site. It has great ideas. Since I have decided this is the way to go she has been really helpful and has given me several great tips on what I need to do! It also inspired me to do a little looking of my own.

I'm sure a lot of you know tons about this stuff but I am new to the whole baby thing so all of the following was incredibly helpful to me. I have found “make your own baby food recipes”, make your own baby wipes, and great information about cloth diapers in general. I would have never believed that someone could convince me to do this but reading her post made me look into it more. Check this one out. They have great information on how to “care” for the diapers too. Cost efficient, good for the environment, if used properly reduces/ eliminates diaper rash, etc. All around it sounds great to me! You can even make your own diapers if you want. Personally I don’t think this is for me, but it’s a neat site so I thought I would share.

We’ve also started using the HEB cloth grocery bags for our grocery stuff. Someone told me that lots of stores were going to do away with plastic bags so we decided while the bags were $1.00 we might try them. We have tried other places bags but the HEB ones are our favorite. I don’t know about stores getting rid of the plastic ones but we have really started to enjoy using the HEB bags. There easy to use, hold lots of stuff, and cut down on trips from the car to the house! I can’t say enough good things. You might have had to FORCE me to use those a year ago but I hate using the plastic bags now. I only get them when we are low on trash bags! Maybe I’m turning a bit granola’ie too but some things are just worth it I guess. The verdict is still out about the diapers…

Thanks for the shout out! Doesn't the whole blog world suck you in?!

I feel the same way about all this granola stuff I am getting into- a few years ago I am pretty sure I made fun of people who did such things. :) Look at me now- cloth wipes and all...

Oh P.S. I have had the same type of blog envy, my friend. And I have found that the key to getting lots o' comments is to leave comments. ( I know you already do) But when I am in a blog rut and am not commenting on other people blogs much, I don't get many comments on mine...but when I do, the flood gates open. That is my helpful wisdom for the day. :)

Very nice post! I, too, am looking for ways to get more natural and use less product.

Check out angry chicken, scroll down where talks about making her own shampoo and deodorant. I'm trying to do this soon:

Hey there,

I've become quite "green" lately myself. :) I'm a cloth diapering mama. Love it! I don't use Gdipes like Tara does. I just use fitted diapers with a wool interlock cover. Love them! My guy just potty trained so I'm waiting on my Ethiopian princess so I can CD again. :)

Hi! We are sort of a cloth diapering family (issues with the two we've tried) and totally natural with so many other things too! Some people think we are extreme I'm sure (think none deoderant wearing, essential oils and homeopathic remedies, and cleaning with vinegar and baking soda type of people :))It's the way to go and I can't wait to hear how it goes for you!

i want to be greener but my gas luving SUV won't let me! LOL I think I'm going to start with the paints in my house as I go to repaint, I'm going to get ne windows so I use less fuel and I'm looking for lower options but something about the whole greener, healthier, better for the environment equates to more expensive doesn't seem right to me...what do you think? I'm confused! LOL

I have blog envy too. I don't get a lot of comments, either, but have really enjoyed getting to know the people who do respond!
Oh, by the way, kudos to you for going green!!
God Bless!

Hi - I was thrilled to read your blog - we just got back with our Destiny and it truly was a trip of a lifetime. We are using BumGenius Diapers with our Destiny and I really love them - for our whole 2 days of cloth diapering. No leaks, easy to clean, and they wash up great so far. PLUS, no break outs from diaper rash. I have TONS of travel advise - if you want to ask specifics, weels1@hotmail.com feel free to fire away. I can't wait to hear referral news, too... but, nothing from Gladney right now, right?

But I was just wondering how do we both know the Carters?? Well, I know how I know them, but how do you know them? SO FUN that they're adopting huh??! Small world...
